To champion a circular economy and transform waste and recycling management for the better, we’re helping our clients to join the DOTS. With a collaborative, innovative and community-focused approach, we’re focusing our efforts to reduce the impact of waste on the environment.
We’re committed to helping clients across the UK to become environmental leaders in their sector – by achieving their sustainability goals and putting value directly back into local communities.
Joining the DOTS
We are dedicated to managing client resources in line with the UK Waste Regulation and The Environmental Regulation Act.
Our unique step-by-step process ensures we get to the core of our clients existing challenges. That way, we’re best placed to advise and deliver a fully tailored waste management plan. For every client, we undergo the following steps:
Discovery
We understand your goals and challenges by carrying out a desktop analysis of your existing waste management practices, getting to the core of your business.
Opportunity
We audit your estate by reviewing waste streams, processes and procedures to identify opportunities to improve efficiency. Our extensive audits include visiting each site and investigating the bins, pulling out samples of waste from each one to see how waste is currently being disposed.
Transform
From the results of our audit, we build a bespoke, best practice waste management plan aligning against your sustainable goals.
Sustainable
We manage the implementation of the new programme, training staff and providing educational materials.
Our DOTS process is supported by our intelligent sustainability platform, managing ESG risk and reducing operational costs. Pre-configured utility and resource reports can be built to help users easily visualise performance year over year, compare KPI to absolute and intensity targets, and forecast into the future.
Zest Recycle helps Greensleeves Care to join the DOTS
A great example of our DOTS process is our work with Greensleeves Care, a care home business operating twenty-eight care homes across the UK. Each of these individual sites previously managed their own waste collection and wanted to achieve a standardised approach in line with their new sustainability strategy.
Discovery – We begun by organising a sustainability strategy review to understand the provision of existing service schedules. This allowed us to discover their goals and challenges the estate faced.
Opportunity – We initially performed an extensive audit across four estates, physically visiting locations in Hertfordshire, East Sussex and Cambridgeshire. By reviewing their existing processes, we could identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
Transform – By reviewing their existing processes, we could identify opportunities to improve efficiency. We immediately saw an opportunity to introduce food waste services at each site, increasing recycling through optimised waste streams. To ensure our waste management initiative was implemented successfully, we delivered in-person training days and provided bespoke educational material such as bin stickers, instructional posters including recycling facts, the waste hierarchy and tips on how to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Sustainable – Now that our tailored solution is in place, managed service implementation along with monitoring and delivering continuous improvement projects.
We were able to clearly demonstrate how we could significantly improve processes at Greensleeves Care. In the first two months, our proposition resulted in:
- Recycling rates increased from 49% to 74%
- Cost reduction of 35% across the estate
- Mobilisation of food waste across the sites
- Ensured compliance with all waste streams were upheld
