Schneider
Schneider Electric UK develops technologies and solutions in the energy sector and places a strong ethos on improved sustainability and environmental performance.
Background
Zest Recycle has been working closely with Schneider Electric and their team at Scarborough for over five years helping them to increase the number of material lines they are able to recycle, earning them notoriety within the organisation as the leading light on achieving Zero Waste To Landfill (ZWTL) and setting best practice in managing waste resources across the company.
The Solution
Zest Recycle first started working with Schneider Electric UK to recycle their cardboard waste but now manages ten different segregated lines of waste material.
These waste streams include, cardboard, polythene, timber, polycarbonate, hard plastics, polypropylene, various metals and general waste. All of the recyclable materials managed by Zest Recycle are baled or crushed and collected for onward reprocessing, all of which takes place cost effectively here in the UK.
The initial challenge faced by Schneider was in generating sufficient revenues from baled materials. The company struggled to find space to store the minimum volumes of material, set by the waste processors. This was where Zest Recycle stepped in and with its network of regional and local supply chain partners was able to provide Schneider with a tailored mixed collection solution which enabled the firm to store lower volumes of each waste material whilst still generating healthy rebates.
The results
As a result of the robust recycling programme in place, Schneider in Scarborough is achieving ZWTL and recycling rates are in excess of 77%. The site has also been recognised within their international organisation as a ‘beacon’ of best practice in recycling and resource management.
Zest Recycle have been with us every step of the way and have been extremely proactive in identifying ways in which we can increase our recycling and achieve our environmental aspirations. Their flexible approach has enabled us to appreciate and make the most of our waste resources. To be recognised as a leading light on best practice is a fantastic accolade for the site and testament to the partnership between Schneider UK and Zest Recycle.
